Ski & Snowboard Instructor – Chinese/English Speaking
SnowJourney Japan is looking for ski and snowboard instructors for the 2027 winter season in the Echigo-Yuzawa area of Niigata, Japan.
Our guests are mainly international visitors, including families and beginners from Taiwan and other countries. Lessons are private and limited to a maximum of four guests per group.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide private ski or snowboard lessons for beginners and families
- Teach basic techniques, including balance, stopping, turning and safe lift use
- Explain slope rules and help guests enjoy the snow safely
- Communicate with guests in Chinese or English
- Meet guests at the designated location before each lesson
- Check guests’ experience and physical condition
- Adjust lessons to suit each guest’s age, experience and ability
- Assist guests in case of minor problems during lessons
- Cooperate with other instructors and operational staff
Work Location
Ski resorts in the Echigo-Yuzawa area, including:
- Iwappara Ski Resort
- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort
- Maiko Snow Resort
The assigned resort may vary depending on lesson bookings.
Employment Period
January 2027 to March 7, 2027
The employment period may be extended depending on bookings and snow conditions.
Working Hours
- 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- No overtime
- Breaks are taken flexibly between lessons
- One or two weekdays off per week
- Work schedules may vary depending on lesson bookings
Pay and Benefits
- Hourly wage: ¥3,000
- Minimum monthly pay guarantee: ¥150,000
If the total monthly wages and commission are less than ¥150,000, the difference will be paid so that the total monthly payment reaches ¥150,000.
- Additional commission: 15% of lesson sales from guests personally referred by the instructor
- Staff accommodation available
- Accommodation includes a kitchen for self-catering
Requirements
- Able to teach skiing, snowboarding or both
- Able to communicate with guests in Chinese or English
- Eligible to work legally in Japan, such as with a valid Working Holiday visa or other appropriate work authorization
- Friendly, responsible and safety-conscious
- Able to work well with beginners, children and families
Instructor certification is preferred but not required. Applicants without formal certification may also apply depending on their teaching experience and skill level.

Instead of teaching a large group, you can focus on each guest’s age, experience and ability. This makes it easier to provide high-quality instruction and see your guests’ progress and enjoyment firsthand.
Use Your Chinese or English Skills
Most of our guests are international visitors, including beginners and families from Taiwan and other countries.
This is an opportunity to use your Chinese or English skills while introducing guests to the enjoyment of skiing, snowboarding and Japan’s snow resorts.
Instructor Certification Is Not Required
Instructor certification is preferred but not required.
Applicants without formal qualifications may also apply. We will consider your skiing or snowboarding ability, teaching experience, communication skills and personality.
Staff Accommodation Available
Staff accommodation is available during the employment period. The accommodation includes a kitchen for self-catering.
This makes it easier for applicants from outside the area and Working Holiday participants to start their winter season in Japan.

Requirements
- Able to teach skiing, snowboarding or both

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Previous ski or snowboard teaching experience
- Ski or snowboard instructor certification
- Experience teaching beginners or children
- Experience working in hospitality or tourism
- Basic Japanese communication skills
- A valid driver’s license is preferred but not required
Instructor certification is not required. Applicants without formal certification are welcome to apply and will be considered based on their skill level and teaching experience.

Working Hours
- Available working hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Shift-based work within the above hours according to confirmed lesson bookings
- Approximately 2–7 working hours per day
- Starting times, finishing times and total working hours will vary depending on lesson bookings
- No overtime in principle
- A break of at least 45 minutes will be provided during the workday when actual working hours exceed six hours
- Confirmed work schedules will be provided in advance
The hourly wage will be paid for all working hours included in the confirmed work schedule. Working hours include lesson preparation, guest check-in, required travel, reporting and other duties assigned by the company before or after lessons.
Employees will not be required to remain on standby outside their confirmed working hours.

Holidays and Days Off
- One or two days off per week on a shift-based schedule
- Days off will generally be scheduled on weekdays
- Scheduled days off may change depending on lesson bookings, weather conditions and ski resort operations
- Work schedules will be prepared after considering employees’ preferred days off and the availability of other staff
- Employees may be asked to work during busy periods, with alternative days off arranged where appropriate
We will provide work schedules and planned days off as early as possible, so employees coming from overseas can work with greater peace of mind.

Additional Work Location Information
Instructors will provide lessons at the following ski resorts in the Echigo-Yuzawa area of Niigata Prefecture:
- Iwappara Ski Resort
- Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort
- Maiko Snow Resort
The assigned ski resort will not be fixed and will depend on lesson bookings and guests’ requests. Instructors will be informed of their assigned ski resort and meeting location in advance.
Staff accommodation is available, so applicants from other parts of Japan and overseas are welcome. The accommodation includes a kitchen for self-catering.

Company vehicles are shared with other staff members and will be used according to the day’s lesson locations and work schedules.
To drive a company vehicle, you must hold a valid driver’s license that permits you to drive in Japan. Applicants with an overseas driver’s license must obtain the appropriate license or permit required to drive legally in Japan before employment begins.

If the total monthly hourly wages and commission are less than ¥150,000, the difference will be paid so that the employee’s total gross pay for that month reaches ¥150,000.
Instructors will receive an additional commission equal to 15% of eligible lesson sales from guests they personally introduce or attract. The eligibility requirements and calculation method for commission payments will be explained in writing when employment begins.
Staff accommodation is available for ¥20,000 per month. The accommodation includes a kitchen for self-catering. Payment arrangements and the rules regarding moving into and out of the accommodation will be explained during the hiring process.

Insurance coverage will be determined in accordance with Japanese law based on factors such as the employment period, scheduled working hours and number of working days.
