In this role, you will be responsible for working with our business partners and product teams to understand the requirements that drive the technology solutions we will deploy and analyze key requirements needed. You will engage in the testing cycles of those solutions to align and drive that the design meets the original set of expectations. You are part of a global team that is consistently looking at ways to enhance the experience for guests, from planning their trip to their in park visit, to their post return while driving the best experience all around.
As part of the Digital and Technology team, you will work in a global and multinational team atmosphere, with team members that come to work with us, from various countries. You will engage with not only team members but with multinational vendors that support our destinations and experiences across the globe. So be prepared, as our primary language to operate in is English, daily; however, having other languages, like Japanese is a plus, for local communications.
After joining the company, you will gain a basic understanding of the latest technology for our theme parks and overall in park ride solutions. Not to worry, we will work with you to refine your business system analysis skills. Your role will be responsible for reporting to management both in Japan and within the US. Regardless of your length of service, you will be involved in operations with other parks around the world and will be able to grow significantly.

Software Application Tech Lead for eCommerce provides technical leadership to the eCommerce technology teams and contributes to the software delivery for related project efforts. They will serve as the subject matter application expert for eCommerce technologies and custom solutions and will partner closley with Architects on design ideas as well as drive the technical efforts to develop, test, configure, analyze, and deliver end-to-end commerce solutions.
As a platform expert, this Senior Lead Engineer supports eCommerce applications, ensuring its optimization for scale, reliability and security for our guests and is flexibility to meet business objectives. The eCommerce channel is a key revenue driver for Universal destinations and it is critical that it continues to mature, scale and support the growing business needs.
This role is expected to perform as a technical lead from a code-level as well as the functional-level by supporting their development teams, collaborating closely with other cross functional technology teams, stakeholders, and in some cases, third-party vendors to influence decisions and solution progress.
Project work includes introducing eCommerce software applications, understanding API layers and Parks Web Stores that are critical for ticketing, merchandise, and resellers; partnering with DevOps; and platform designing.
- Collaborate with lead business analysts, programmer analysts, developers, and architects in leading the conceptualization and development of software programs and applications.
- Liaise and mentor other technical staff to lend expertise toward driving solutions.
- Design, run and monitor software tests on new and existing systems for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
- 7+ years of relevant work experience. Preferred experience includes software development on small to large-scale projects with teams of varying sizes.
- Proven ability to be a technical lead and assist in the technical growth of other team members and operate as the technical expert for multiple applications.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to a non-technical audience)
- Adaptability a fast learner with a willingness to build solutions using tools to which you may have had little previous exposure.
- Empathy the innate ability to understand the challenges faced by our customers, and the drive to resolve them.
- Demonstrated ability of strong customer relationship skills, problem solving, and improving efficiencies and productivity.
- Experience leading enterprise engineering projects or teams is a plus. Self-starter with the ability to manage a broad workload and accommodate change with a proven ability to deliver results.
- Experience with Agile, Scrum, Scaled Agile Framework and SAP Hybris is a plus.
- Proven hands-on experience as a software engineer with expertise and focus on one or more technologies inclusive of NodeJS, TypeScript, JavaScript, ExpressJS. Experience in Mocha, CouchDB, Redis, Kafka, Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, troubleshooting, triaging, and conflict resolution skills required, along with excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and negotiation abilities.
- Expertise with REST, Node.JS, NoSQL, SQL, eventing patterns and microservices.
- Experienced with development and integration of large scale enterprise system.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high quality technical documentation.
Business proficiency in both Japanese and English

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred in one or more of the following fields: Computer Information Technology, Computer Programming and Analysis, Industrial Technology, or Electronics Engineering Technology.
