The Head of Performance & Data Analytics leads the Performance & Data Analytics Department and is accountable for defining and executing the department’s strategy, governance framework and operating priorities in alignment with the firm’s business and transformation objectives. The role oversees the development and use of data and performance-related analytics capabilities across the organization, ensuring strong data quality, integrity, transparency and effective business support.
The role provides leadership and oversight for performance-related data and analytics capabilities, ensuring robust support for measurement, attribution and related business processes. In close partnership with business, operations, technology, risk and compliance teams, the role strengthens the control environment and operating model for performance-related data and outputs, while driving continuous improvement across data governance, platform capabilities and departmental effectiveness. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership, judgement, and deep expertise in data management within the asset management industry.
●Lead, develop and manage the Performance & Data Analytics team, including hiring, coaching, performance management and succession planning
●Build a high-performing team culture with clear accountability, continuous learning and strong cross-functional collaboration
●Drive the implementation of the department’s strategy across relevant operational units and stakeholders
●Act as the senior interface between business functional areas and Data Solutions to ensure that performance-related business requirements are clearly defined, prioritised and delivered effectively
●Act as a senior stakeholder manager across business, operations, technology, risk and global partners to drive alignment on priorities, delivery and governance
●Communicate effectively with senior management on strategic priorities, progress, key risks and decision points
●Assist in implementing Global Performance Management platforms, proactively collaborating with local business users and the global project team
●Work closely with compliance, legal and vendor management teams to ensure a thorough understanding of the regulatory and/or contractual obligations related to the usage of data
●Oversee budget planning relevant to the department
●Manage vendor relationships and support evaluation/selection of performance platforms and services
●Ensure value-for-money and appropriate governance over third-party tools usage
●Partner with the Head of Data & Performance Management Division to drive relevant projects and initiatives, proactively managing risks, issues and escalation points
●Support and upskill the team to ensure the ongoing quality and accuracy of data deliverables as well as continuous enhancement of our performance solutions
●Establish and embed a practical performance operational governance framework across key performance domains
●Improve output quality, lineage visibility and operational transparency
●Strengthen support for performance attribution/analytics and business decision-making
●Deliver priority transformation initiatives on time with effective stakeholder alignment
●Understanding of the asset management industry, including front office, middle office, and back office
●Strong understanding of GIPS practices and relevant governance principles
●Expertise in benchmark management, performance calculation, attribution and analytics techniques
●Broad knowledge of investment products
●Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English, with bilingual professional proficiency
●Proven ability to translate business needs into clear requirements and practical solutions
●Programming skills, particularly in AI, SQL, Python, and/or other scripting languages, are advantageous
●10+ years of hands-on experience in benchmark, performance attribution and analytics including return calculations
●Bachelor’s degree or above in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or other numerate subject
●Strong familiarity with GIPS and governance principles
●Sound knowledge to manipulate and analyse complex, high-volume and high-dimensionality data from various sources
●Proven experience in leading teams and managing senior stakeholders in a complex business environment
●Experience in driving cross-functional transformation initiatives, ideally within the asset management industry
●Demonstrated ability to lead change across business, operations and technology teams
●Experience of using analytical tools (FactSet, MSCI Barra, Bloomberg, Power BI, etc) is a plus
●Familiarity with third-party performance management platforms (Eagle, Rimes etc), and data visualisation tools is advantageous
●Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to create written reports and document processes
●Strong attention to detail, being numerate and logical in their approach to problem solving
●Ability to take ownership and responsibility and to be able to multi-task
●Ability to build strong relationships at all levels
●Must show the ability to meet deadlines, establish priorities and concentrate on detailed information sometimes under stressful conditions
●Proactive, self-motivated, and able to challenge status quo, aware of risk and committed to data quality
●The ability to cooperate in a team environment is critical even when working remotely
