Job Description
Support Staff are one of the key roles when it comes to how smoothly a camp program runs. You will be on the ground supporting our camp program and activities. While interaction with campers is still key to your role, you will not be in charge of your own group of campers. You will be assigned to set up camp activities, support Activity Leaders and their campers, and work with camp managers on ensuring all camp activities run smoothly and timely. While all of our camp activities and schedule is planned beforehand, we rely on Support Staff to be proactive in supporting in camp any way that they can. Examples of tasks that our Support Staff might do at camp would be chopping firewood for campfires, setting up speaker systems for a talent show, helping campers into kayaks or running team games and activities.
Our ideal Support Staff are positive people who enjoy being part of a close-knit team and are very adaptable to changes and are ready to jump into new challenges. We may ask the Support Staff to step in as replacement Team Leaders in case of injury or illness. Support Staff should ideally have a driving license permitting them to drive an automatic car in Japan and have at least conversational Japanese as you may be asked to work with campers who have limited English ability.
Camp is hard work! We support the campers from morning until night, but you'll have other support staff around you, and some good breaks to make sure that you stay energized and are having fun too.
We are seeking hard-working, fun, and energetic English-speaking staff of any nationality.

Basic qualifications
- Age 18 or older
- Available for all training and all camp days
- Childcare, youth work or educational experience
- Flexible, able to work under pressure
- A strong desire to help kids have a blast and make the most of their camp experience
Pluses, but not requirements
- Teacher or youth work certification
- Valid Japanese driver's license
- Previous experience working with kids in a camp environment
- Japanese language ability (JLPT N3 or higher)
- Teaching/leadership experience in outdoor settings
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
Summer Camp 2026 Schedule
- Onsite Training: July 17-20 (departure from Tokyo to the campsite on July 16 evening)
- Camp Sessions 1-8: July 22 - August 23
- Hongo School Camp Session: August 25-28
- Support staff will stay at the campsite during all 8 sessions and Hongo camp. They will work three out of every four days throughout all camp sessions.
- Location: Tsunan, Niigata
Overseas volunteers would come to Japan as a visitor to Japan (tourist visa).
Your overseas volunteer package includes (as a volunteer, you can not be paid a salary):
- round-trip flight reimbursement up to a maximum of 130,000 yen
- volunteer allowance of 40,000 yen
- Hongo camp bonus of 40,000 yen
- transportation from and to one of the airports in Tokyo (Haneda or Narita) to Tokyo station up to 3,500 yen each way
- shared Tokyo accommodation on July 15 ahead of staff training and on the last day of camp on August 28
- accommodation and food at campsite during training and camp sessions and days off
Staff Training
English Adventure will provide training prior to each camp. Attendance is mandatory for all staff. Our professional training is designed to make camps run smoothly, ensure the safety of our campers and staff, and will ensure you have the confidence necessary to have a great experience throughout the summer. We will also have staff complete a basic online first-aid course to help prepare for staff training.
