仕事内容:
The Montessori School of Tokyo (MST) is seeking a native Japanese guide to work in our adolescent programme on a part-time basis from August 2024.
The ideal candidate is a progressive educator who has a strong proficiency with English. Warm, respectful, and genuinely motivated to extend themselves in the service of their students, they will work collaboratively as a co-teacher on a variety of projects across the curriculum to connect students to Japanese culture and to their local community; and guide students to organise Middle School (MS) trips in Japan on which they may also accompany.
Public Japanese teacher certification is not a requirement for this position.
Primary Role
- To lead and deliver the Japanese cultural aspects of the curriculum by working alongside other MS teachers.
- To deliver some Japanese language lessons to both native and non-native speakers.
- To support the MS teaching team in coordinating field trips, overnight trips, and other projects that require native-level proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Plans and implements the Japanese curriculum with a focus on cultural elements, and practical use of the Japanese language.
- Skilfully integrates Japanese language learning into projects and community work, including food preparation work.
- Differentiates curriculum and instruction to cater to a multitude of language levels for both native Japanese and non-native Japanese students who opt-in to Japanese lessons.
- Completes community work with students (e.g. community cooking; supporting students to engage and interact with the Japanese-speaking world around them)
- Supports and nurtures the overall development of the adolescents in his/her care
- Leads a book study for native Japanese students.
- Supports MS staff with administrative work for the curriculum, including finding resources, booking outings, lesson planning.
- Completes progress reports as needed.
- Attends level and whole faculty meetings throughout the year.
- Attends Middle School community events throughout the year.

Essential:
- Highly proficient in Japanese.
- Currently residing in Japan.
- Highly proficient in English, both written and spoken.
- Open-minded and with an affinity for and awareness of the Montessori approach.
- Excellent cross-cultural communication, interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Works calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Communicates appropriately, collaboratively, and respectfully with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Willing, interested and available to join on overnight trips and other outings if needed.
Desirable:
- AMI Diploma or Certificate OR willingness to complete the AMI 12-18 training.
- Willingness to work for at least 3 years at MST.
