Announcement of Faculty Position
Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation

(Digital Business Creation and Technology Management),
Kanazawa University

1. Number of Positions:
One position: Professor, Associate Professor, Lecturer or Assistant Professor

2. Affiliation: Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation

3. Field of Specialization: Entrepreneurship, Technology Management, Innovation Management,
Business Development, Digital Business, Industrial Studies, Regional Industry Studies,
Engineering Ethics, Science, Technology and Society (STS), Sustainability, or related fields

4. Duties and Responsibilities: Kanazawa University promotes transdisciplinary research that
integrates the humanities, sciences, and medicine within its Faculty of Transdisciplinary Sciences
for Innovation. To further strengthen these efforts, we invite applications for a faculty position
in Digital Business Creation and Technology Management. The successful candidate will be
responsible for research and education in areas related to business creation through digital
technologies, entrepreneurship education, technology management, innovation management,
and the relationship between technology, society, and industry. Specific areas include
entrepreneurship, business planning, business models, startups, industry–academia
collaboration, R&D management, technology commercialization and societal implementation,
digital transformation (DX), data utilization, new business development utilizing AI and IoT,
value creation through collaboration with regional communities and companies, engineering
ethics, Science, Technology and Society (STS), risk, safety, and the environment, ELSI,
sustainability, regional industries, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, food industries,
manufacturing, supply chains, industrial structures, utilization of regional resources, industrial
DX, and ethical and social issues associated with AI and data utilization. The appointee is also
expected to teach courses on entrepreneurship education and technology management, and to
engage in educational and research activities related to business development utilizing digital
technologies, project-based learning, business model design, industry–academia and regional
collaboration education, internship-based education, and the societal implementation of
technology.

(1) Class duties:

Undergraduate specialized education (College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation),
Graduate specialized education (Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of
Frontier Science Initiative):
Kanazawa University provides education for students enrolled in the College of
Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the Division of Convergence Science, Graduate
School of Frontier Science Initiative. This education is based on transdisciplinary sciences
integrating the humanities, sciences, and medicine, as well as on the creation of convergent
knowledge. The appointee will teach courses related to the above fields of expertise, as well

as courses required by the College of Transdisciplinary Sciences for Innovation and the
Division of Convergence Science, Graduate School of Frontier Science Initiative. Examples
include “Introduction to Entrepreneurship,” “Entrepreneurship Seminar I & II,” “Hokuriku
Region Technology Management Theory,” and “Hokuriku Region Industry Internship
programs I & II.” Depending on their expertise and teaching experience, the appointee may
also teach courses related to innovation, digital business, regional industries, technology
and society, SDGs, industrial DX, “Data Driven Society and Industry,” “Smart Supply Chain,”
and related courses. The specific courses to be assigned will be decided in consultation with
the appointee, taking into consideration their preferences, background, and the University’s
teaching needs.
Note: Some of the courses listed above may be taught in English.

(2) Non-class duties:
Student guidance, research supervision, student recruitment, admissions, career guidance,
social contribution, etc.

(3) Other duties deemed necessary by the head of the affiliated organization.

5. Employment Status: The employment period is set for 5 years. Candidates may be eligible
for conversion to tenured status until the mandatory retirement age at the end of the fixed term
if they meet the prescribed requirements through a reappointment review, based on their
achievements during this period.

Re-appointment Performance Review Criteria

(1) Educational activities: such as lectures, practical training, seminars, research supervision,
and student guidance

(2) Research activities: such as presentations of research papers and conferences

(3) Research funding and contributions to the university and society

For applicants currently employed at Kanazawa University, the combined duration of the current
and any subsequent terms cannot exceed 10 years, which may result in a new employment
period of less than 5 years for the new term. Tenured faculty members at Kanazawa University
who are hired will be considered as “transferred”, without a new fixed term.

6. Qualifications and Requirements: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements
(1) The applicant must have a doctoral degree (including those who are expected to have a

doctoral degree by the time of employment) or have educational and research capabilities
equivalent to a doctoral degree.

(2) The applicant must have outstanding research achievements both domestically and
internationally in their respective field and be capable of engaging in education and research
activities related to the specified field after joining the position. Additionally, they should
demonstrate the ability to collaborate with faculty members for transdisciplinary education
and research.

(3) Nationality is not restricted. It is desirable that applicant possesses the ability to teach and
supervise students in both English and Japanese, and to carry out university service
(administrative duties) in Japanese.

(4) The applicant must be able to live in Kanazawa or the surrounding area after being appointed.

(6) Past research and educational activities and their status (On a sheet of A4 paper)
(7) Reprints of major papers: (Up to five papers, one copy for each paper, photocopies accepted,

A4 size)
(8) The names and contact information of two referees (On a sheet of A4 paper).

10. Selection Process: After the initial screening of application materials, shortlisted candidates
may be asked to attend an interview and give one or more mock lectures on the example
courses listed above. The interview and mock lectures will be conducted in either Japanese or
English. In addition, depending on the backgrounds of the candidates, the courses to be
assigned, and the needs of the selection process, candidates may be asked, to the extent
possible, to conduct part of the interview or part of a mock lecture in the other language, or to
provide additional explanations in the other language.

Applicants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses, whether traveling
from within Japan or from overseas. However, depending on the circumstances, the interview
and mock lectures may be conducted online.

Note: The fields of specialization and courses listed in this announcement are intended as
guidelines and may overlap to some extent with the fields of the other open positions,
"Optimization of Social and Industrial Systems" and "Smart Social Systems and Regional
Design." Applicants whose expertise spans multiple fields may apply for multiple open positions.
In the selection process, the applicant’s research achievements, teaching experience, courses

they are able to teach, and the University’s teaching needs will be comprehensively considered
in determining the most appropriate recruitment category and educational and research role
within the University.
