Announcement of Full-Time Position

Faculty of Education, Institute of Human and Social Sciences
Kanazawa University

1. Number of positions: One Associate Professor (tenured),

or Lecturer (five-year fixed-term contract*)

*The term of lecturer is set for 5 years at the time of employment. (If you are

currently working at our university and work continuously, the total term of office,

from the current term to the next term, cannot exceed 10 years.) The candidate

will be converted to adequate tenured status, based on the following

achievements, which is to be implemented during the term.

(1) Educational achievements (Lecture, Practicum, Seminar, Research guidance,

etc.)

(2) Research achievements (Research papers, Presentations at conferences,

Research grants)

(3) Contribution to the university and society, and so on

(2) Educational body: School of Teacher Education

*You will have to participate in a (cooperative) research project of KU School of

Teacher Education: “Humanities Education” Group.

3. Field of specialization: Pedagogy of social studies for elementary- and

secondly-school students and Geography

4. Subjects to Teach:

(1) General Education: asked at the employment

(2) School of Teacher Education: “Methods of Teaching Social studies at Primary
School I/II”, “Methods of Teaching Social studies, Geography and History Ⅰ

/II/Ⅲ/VI (partial charge)”, “Fundamentals of Social Studies B (partial

charge)”,“Educational Practices in Ishikawa PrefectureⅠ (partial charge)” ,

“Introduction to Digital Transformation in Education B (partial charge)”,

“Future-Design Education (partial charge)”, “Teaching Practicum”, and

“Research Project”, Other courses related to geography, such as “Regional
Geography I/II ” including lectures, seminars, and fieldwork.

* The classes above are from the present curriculum. They may be modified
along with university reorganizations.

* All classes are of 8 week and 1 credit.
* A common subject for the school of teacher education may be required to
teach.

* Since our school is operating the Joint Institute of Teacher Education with
department of education in University of Toyama, students from University of
Toyama may attend the classes above. The classes are provided online.

* The classes above may be required to teach in English.

5. Qualifications:

All of the following requirements must be fulfilled:

(1) Holding a Doctoral degree (a Doctoral degree having been awarded by April

2027 at the latest)

(2) It is desirable for candidates to have sufficient communication skills in both

Japanese and English.

(3) Residence in Kanazawa or surrounding cities after employment.

(4) Being passionate about teacher education and having a strong devotion to

education and the community.

(5) Applicants should have a proven record of research in social studies

education and be able to teach both social studies education.

(6) Ability to implement education related to geography and disaster

prevention.

(7) Candidates with practical experience in school education and advanced

practical skills are preferred.

7. Commencement of employment: April 1, 2027 (or the earliest possible date

thereafter)

research funds, experience in contribution to society and educational

(3) Copies or offprints of five of your major publications (books or research
papers) with the summaries in approximately 400 Japanese characters or

250 English words

* Single-authored or first-authored publications only.

* The publisher’s proofread manuscript of an upcoming book will be

accepted.

* As to upcoming papers, a word processor manuscript with a publishing

certificate will be accepted.

(4) A Summary of the research achievements (approximately 1000 characters

in Japanese or 600 words in English)

(5) Statement on the applicant’s prospective research and education at School

of Teacher Education (approximately 1000 characters in Japanese or 600

words in English)

9. Selection process:

After the document-based selection, short-listed candidates will be called for an

interview and be asked to give a teaching demonstration. Travel costs

(including overseas travel) for the interview are not covered by the university.
