English Adventure, the leader in English-language outdoor programs, hires year-round for our camps!
The main camp period for overseas volunteers is our summer camps in July and August. Overseas volunteers would come to Japan as a visitor to Japan (tourist visa). Unfortunately we are only able to accept overseas volunteer applicants for the summer camps from April until the end of May. If you are interested in joining us as an overseas volunteer for our ski camps in December and January, the hiring period for the winter overseas volunteer spots will be from September to the end of November, but those spots will be limited to experienced skiers.
Job Description
English Adventure staff are some of the biggest reasons that kids become Happy Campers, and want to come back to camp again and again. Your enthusiasm and caring can help create an experience that kids will remember for the rest of their lives.
We have a variety of roles at camp! Here are some of the examples of the roles we have for Summer and Ski Camps to give an idea of positions that we might be hiring for.
If you were a Summer Team Leader/Camp Counselor, you would be preparing campers for and guiding them through a wide variety of exciting activities is a major part of your job, but just as important is your awareness of their emotional and social needs. Attention to each individual camper is key to this role. In this position, you will supervise campers to ensure their entire camp experience is safe, fun, and memorable. You will lead a group of about 8 campers through various camp activities including but not limited to: wake up and bedtimes, mealtimes, camp activity times and free times. At camp Team Leaders are also expected to stay in rooms with campers at night.
During our winter and spring camps in December, January and March, the Ski Leader role is a hybrid position, in which you will be a Ski instructor to a group of seven to ten kids during the day and a Room Leader the remaining time. Outside of our ski activities, you will supervise campers to ensure their entire camp experience is safe, fun, and memorable. You may lead campers who speak near-native English, or who are still learning English. For all campers, the ski camp is a chance to practice and improve their skiing abilities as well as their English with your help. We are looking for ski leaders with a high level of skiing ability for this position.
You could also be leading activities like forest games, kayaking, bouldering, low ropes, swimming, crafts, and field games. As an Activity Leader, you will be responsible for leading campers through daily activities, planning fun and engaging activities for each age group (G1-2; G3-4, G5-6; G7+), making sure campers are prepared for the activity (performing safety briefings, gear checks, etc.), making safety decisions based on campers' ability levels and helping to develop and set new activity content.
Camp can't happen without our amazing Support Staff! Support Staff are one of the key roles when it comes to how smoothly a camp program runs. You will be on the ground supporting our camp program and activities. While interaction with campers is still key to your role, you will not be in charge of your own group of campers. You will be assigned to set up camp activities, support Activity Leaders and their campers, and work with camp managers on ensuring all camp activities run smoothly and timely. While all of our camp activities and schedule is planned beforehand, we rely on Support Staff to be proactive in supporting in camp any way that they can.
Camp is hard work! We support the campers from morning until night, but you'll have the team around you, and some good breaks to make sure that you stay energized and are having fun too.
We are seeking hard-working, fun, and energetic English-speaking staff of any nationality.
