Job Content (What You Will Do Daily)
Your responsibilities are focused strictly inside the server room floors and staging areas, broken down into three major pillars:
1. Hardware Lifecycle & Deployment (Rack & Stack)
- Deployment: Safely unpack, inspect, audit, and physically mount high-density enterprise servers, storage arrays, and network switches into server cabinets.
- Decommissioning: Carefully shut down, unrack, and remove legacy hardware following strict asset-disposal and secure data-destruction compliance protocols.
- Hardware Diagnostics & Break-Fix: Perform advanced physical troubleshooting. Identify component failures and replace field-replaceable units (FRUs) such as server motherboards, RAM modules, CPUs, power supply units (PSUs), and storage drives (HDDs/SSDs).
2. Structured Cabling & Physical Connectivity
- Cable Infrastructure: Route, patch, and neatly dress copper (Ethernet) and fiber optic (Singlemode/Multimode) data links according to strict engineering standards.
- Testing & Validation: Test and clean fiber endpoints using specialized tools (flukes, light meters, optical scopes) to guarantee zero signal loss before linking production servers to core switches.
3. Inventory Control & Vendor Coordination
- Inventory Verification: Maintain impeccable asset-tracking records for incoming equipment, spare parts, and optical transceivers using barcode scanners and inventory software.
- Escort & Supervise: Serve as the trusted site authority to escort external third-party hardware vendors, telco engineers, or facility contractors into high-security zones, ensuring they comply with data center regulations.
