We are a company that provides a lot of opportunities around Kanto if you are a teacher who is looking to supplement your main income. We are partnered with various vocational schools, private junior and senior high schools, learning centers, pre-schools and kindergarten facilities and other institutions that request instructors. Sometimes online lessons are offered. In addition to the teaching opportunities, there are occasional opportunities to do translation and student recruitment work for study abroad programs.

Work Setting:
The courses are at two affiliated vocational colleges that are within walking distance (7 minutes) of each other. The TOEIC students are in their early to mid-twenties and are working towards university or graduate school entrance or gaining full-time employment after graduating. The other school's students are a mix of students in their twenties and thirties who are working towards attaining employment in a Japanese business setting after graduating. Some students have already completed university and also graduate school. The vast majority of the students at both schools are of various nationalities, and we have foreign teachers who are from North America, England and other countries.
Compensation:
The pay rate is based on 90 minutes, which is the duration of one class period. The TOEIC course is paid at 4,125 yen. The economics course it paid at 4,500 yen. There is an additional flat rate paid near the end of the each of the two semesters for preparing the final exams and finalizing students' course grades. The TOEIC final exam creation fee is 4,125/exam made, and the economics one is at 4,125/exam made. The exams can be graded by machine to make the process faster. Transportation is reimbursed with your paid wages.
Schedule:
College 1:
10:45-12:20 TOEIC Course (There is a 5-minute break for the students after 45 minutes of the 90-minute class.)
The school will assess the students before your first day, but the average TOEIC score for this course is usually around 600. There are textbooks available, and you could carry out the course however you see fit. As long as a final exam is given at the end of the term, that is fine. There are usually about 25 students in the class.
College 2:
13:00-14:35 Economics Course (There is a 5-minute break included here as well. The class duration is 90 minute.)
The average TOEIC score for the students in this course was about 700 this past academic year. There are textbooks on site, but you are also free to organize the course how you wish. All you need to do is give a final exam at the end of the term. The year-1 students from this past year have already worked through both textbook, so it might be a good chance to do different activities and have discussions about media stories. Each classroom has a projector and the internet. Class Size: About 40 students.
***There are 15 minutes between classes to allow you to have a chance to get any materials you need, go to the restroom, change classrooms and set up the whiteboard or projector if needed.***
14:50-16:25 Economics Course (There is a 5-minute break included in this time. The class duration is 90 minutes.)
The incoming year 1 students will be completly new to the subject and have not seen any of the textbook content.
Class Size: About 40 students.
Attendance is taken for each class, and there are no duties once the classes have been taught, so you are free to leave.
Qualifications:
- Valid visa for the job (Humanities, Instructor (permission needed), Permanent Residence, Spousal, etc.)
- Atleast 2 years of experience working with young adults in a classroom for TOEIC preparation
- Comfortability with basic economics topics, though some teaching experience in this subject would be good as well
- No Japanese language skills required, though could be helpful
- Fluent English speakers a must (Native speakers preferred)
- ESL or other teaching certification would be good
- Availability on Fridays for a full school year
- Must be able to commute to Kuramae or Asakusabashi easily.
