Our team consists of experts with direct experience and a thorough understanding of Japanese government policy-making and decision-making, including former officials from key ministries and the major political parties. Due to our continued growth, GR Japan is now recruiting Public Policy Analysts. In this role you will build a firm foundation to a career in government relations and public affairs, as well as have opportunities to advance in the company.
We are looking for candidates with excellent academic ability who want to apply their knowledge to tackle real policy challenges that make a difference. We offer experience at the intersection of business and government, helping clients – world-leading multinational conglomerates, financial institutions, industry associations, NGOs and other civil society organisations, and non-profit organisations, etc. – to understand how to effectively interact with Japanese policy and government stakeholders.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• A demonstrated passion for public policy and politics
• Solid understanding of Japan’s policy-making process, politics
• Excellent research skills
• Interest in international business
• Sound judgment and cultural sensitivity
• Ability to take a creative and proactive approach to solving complex policy-related challenges
• Self-starter who can handle new client demands and develop strategies
• Native (or N1/N2 JLPT) Japanese reading and writing skills
• Native (or high TOIEC, etc., score) English reading and writing skills
• Two to three years of professional experience in government relations, international business/organisations, or Japanese government ministries and agencies is a plus.
• Experience in project management and/or business development is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITY
• Public policy research and analysis, report writing, editing, and strategic development
• Collaborating closely with project leaders in implementing strategic outreach and engagement plans with government officials, Diet members, media, and other key policy stakeholders
• Liaising with colleagues to provide client satisfaction
• Playing an integral role in preparing customised proposals to win new business
EDUCATION
• Good university degree, ideally a master’s in a related subject, such as public policy, political science, politics, economy or international relations.
• Working or internship experience in a Ministry, Agency, Diet or at any Diet member's offices or Embassy will also be seen as an asset

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
25 days paid leave a year and full social benefits as regulated by Japanese law. GR Japan can also provide visa sponsorship for the right candidates.
