Responsibilities:
Responsible for the revenue cycle (WIP, Billing and AR) - As a Billing/Revenue Specialist, you will be responsible for WIP management, billing and Accounts Receivable processes for the Firms Tokyo office, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with client requirements.
This is a proactive role seeking to achieve full statutory compliance with local and International tax, AML and the International SRA Accounts Rules, as well as adherence to internal financial controls and policies in relation to all transactions and processes.
The role is to drive exceptional client service to the firm and its clients, through initiative, professionalism, responsiveness and adaptability.
Duties will include (but are not restricted to):

Manage the full revenue cycle for the Tokyo office, including WIP management, Billing and AR.

Perform end-to-end billing, including some eBilling, ensuring timely and accurate invoice generation.

Prompt dispatch of bills via email/eBilling.

Process time transfers and edits as required. Complete time and disbursement write-offs in accordance with Firm policy.

Liaise with Partners, Associates and clients to promptly resolve billing queries and ensure alignment with client guidelines.

Provide support to the Partners and Fee earners with bill processing and other administrative tasks as required.

Sharing knowledge and best practice to support our lawyers and secretaries in delivering often complex billing solutions.

Assist in the development and rollout of billing policies, procedures, and system enhancements.

Support audits and compliance initiatives related to billing and revenue recognition.

Champion a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the billing function.

Ensure statutory compliance with global sales Tax and Accounts Rules.

The ability to liaise with external accountants on tax matters and advise the secretaries accordingly.

Monitor and drive progress against monthly and annual WIP and AR targets, ensuring timely conversion of lock-up days.

Assist with working capital management as required - produce and circulate WIP and billing information as requested.

Conduct regular WIP & A/R reviews with partners and fee earners, providing clear insights, recommendations and action plans.

Proactively manage aged debt, implementing effective collection strategies and escalating issues where appropriate.

Analyse revenue trends and provide commentary, forecasts, and performance updates to senior finance leadership.

Build strong, trusted relationships with partners, fee earners, and practice management teams.

Act as the primary point of contact for all revenue related matters.

Collaborate with global finance teams to ensure consistency and alignment with firmwide revenue policies.

Monthly preparation of reports detailing the current status of the department and individual partners and highlighting any issues to senior UK finance leadership.

Manage WIP reserves for the Tokyo office.

Support firmwide initiatives related to revenue optimization.

Admin duties if required for the Tokyo office.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes:
- Proven (Legal Sector) background with specific experience within Billing, Revenue Control and Credit Control and end to end knowledge of the Revenue Cycle.

Proven experience in revenue control within a large International law firm or professional services environment.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge and influence senior attorney.

Highly organised, detail oriented and able to manage competing priorities.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights.

Proficiency with legal finance systems (e.g., Credit Force, Aderant) is highly desirable.

A proactive, solutions focused mindset and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Strong communication skills – able to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff.

Fluency in both Japanese and English highly favourable in order to navigate internal systems, deal with Japanese regulatory requirements, and communicate with third parties locally.

Microsoft skills particularly Excel – where advanced Excel will be required.

Maintain the highest level of confidentiality regarding financial information.

Ability to demonstrate judgment in the organisation and prioritisation of multiple assignments.

Posted Pay Range:
