Job Description
The Low Elements /Low Ropes Master is in charge of leading activities at our outdoor low ropes course. Experience in low ropes challenge courses is a plus, both planning and leading low ropes activities. We won’t have any particularly difficult activities, but applicant should be physically fit as different children will participate throughout camp. The Low Ropes Master will have to spend multiple, consecutive days facilitating team building activities at the Low Elements outdoor course.
Main Areas of Responsibility
- Leading campers through daily low ropes activities
- Planning fun and engaging activities for each age group (G1-2; G3-4, G5-6; G7+)
- Making sure campers are prepared for each challenge (performing safety briefings, gear checks, etc.)
- Making safety decisions based on camper ability
- Helping to develop and set new low ropes challenges.
Japanese ability is not a requirement as our Challenge Camp Team Leaders have Japanese ability and will be accompanying their campers to activities. However, experience working with children who are learning English as a second language is a bonus. Any wilderness first aid training is also a bonus.
We are seeking hard-working, fun, and energetic English-speaking staff of any nationality. English Adventure is a 100% nonsmoking workplace.
Basic qualifications
- Age 18 or older
- Available for all training and all camp days.
- Low rope or high rope activity experience either as a participant or facilitator
- A strong desire to help kids make the most of their camp experience
Pluses, but not requirements
- Previous experience working with kids in a camp environment
- Japanese language ability
- Teaching/leadership experience in outdoor settings, especially facilitating low/high ropes challenge courses
- Current Wilderness CPR/First Aid certification
- Basic CPR/First Aid certification
Summer Camp 2026 Schedule
- Onsite Training: July 17-20 (departure from Tokyo to the campsite on July 16 evening and return to Tokyo station on July 20)
- Camp Sessions 1-8: July 22 - August 23
- Hongo School Camp Session: August 25-28
- Activity Leaders will stay at the campsite during all 8 sessions and Hongo Camp. They will work three out of every four days throughout all camp sessions.
- Remuneration: 10,000 yen per camp and training day
- Location: Tsunan, Niigata
Staff Training
English Adventure will provide training prior to each camp. Attendance is mandatory for all staff. Our professional training is designed to make camps run smoothly, ensure the safety of our campers and staff, and will ensure you have the confidence necessary to have a great experience throughout the summer. We will also have staff complete a basic online first-aid course to help prepare for staff training.
