Position for Professor in the Laboratory of Agricultural Bio-System Engineering,
Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University

We are inviting applications for the position of Professor in the Laboratory of Agricultural Bio-System Engineering,
Research Group of Bioresource and Environmental Engineering, Division of Fundamental Agriscience Research,
Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University.

4. Duties in education:

Lectures, seminars, experimental work, practical training, and exercise courses provided in Graduate School of
Agriculture and School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University (see Appendix 2).

5. Qualifications:
(1) Applicants should have or are expected to have a doctoral degree or Ph.D.

(2) The ideal candidate will possess an exceptional research record in the domain of circular production,
utilization, and recycling of biomass resources, as well as in sustainable agricultural and resource utilization
systems. The candidate will be responsible for lectures, laboratory experiments, and practical training in the
Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, and the Biological
Production Engineering Unit of the Production Frontier Course, Graduate School of Agriculture. Additionally,
the candidate will be expected to actively educate and mentor graduate and undergraduate students from an
international perspective. (see Appendix 3).

(4) Applicants should be proactive in contributing to the development of the Laboratory of Agricultural Bio-
System Engineering through education and research.

(5) Applicants should be able to provide research guidance regarding the above subjects for undergraduate and
graduate students in Japanese and English (see Appendix 2).

(6) A strong track record in obtaining external funding.
(7) Applicants should arrive at this post on the scheduled date.

Appendix

1. The Laboratory of Agricultural Bio-System Engineering constitutes the Research Group of Bioresource and

Environmental Engineering, together with five other laboratories, namely, Land and Water Management, Soil
Conservation, Ecological and Environmental Physics, Vehicle Robotics, and Agricultural and Food Process
Engineering.

2. The successful applicant will partly or fully give the lectures listed below, for which the Laboratory of

Agricultural Bio-System Engineering is responsible. The laboratory participates in “the Global Education Program
for AgriScience Frontiers” and also provides education only in English.
(1) Subjects in the Graduate School of Agriculture: Advanced Agricultural Production Engineering, Advanced

Organic Material Cycles, Advanced Food and Bioproduction Engineering, Study on Agricultural Science I &
II, Seminar on Agricultural Science I & II, and others

(2) Subjects in the School of Agriculture: Agricultural Bio-System Engineering, Organic Waste Engineering,
Seminar in Bioresource and Environmental Engineering I-IV, Graduation Thesis, and others.

(3) Subjects in general education: Environment and People, and others.

3. The Laboratory of Agricultural Bio-System Engineering is engaged in theoretical research and technological

development related to the circular production, utilization, and recycling of biomass resources, as well as
sustainable agricultural and resource utilization systems. The overarching aim of this research is to contribute
to the creation of a sustainable, low-carbon society based on material cycles. The laboratory undertakes
comprehensive education and research initiatives grounded in these efforts. Currently, the laboratory is
consisted of one Professor (who will retire in March 2027), one associate professor, and one assistant professor
as faculty members.

4. The Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Headquarters of our university is implementing various initiatives in

addition to the project to subsidize the employment costs of technical assistants as shown in the attached document.
