Responsibilities
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This person reports to Technology Manager. The incumbent should be a qualitied senior research and development professional to handle complex assignment projects that involve the identification, assessment and development of scientific concepts and technologies. He/ She will design formulations, conduct experiments and analyses to determine and evaluate chemical and physical properties, and to assess application, performance and manufacturability characteristics of the chemicals/ products being developed. He/ She is expected to demonstrate initiative by proposing and undertaking technical objectives based on his/ her technical and/or literature knowledge, start integrating information from a variety of sources to create a broad awareness of the external market perspective to the subordinates, colleagues and managers, including but not limited to application engineer, QC, manufacturing, Sales and Marketing functions. He/ She is responsible for ensuring the achievement of appropriate quality, quantity, cost-effectiveness, reproducibility and timeliness of results in his/her project assignments, which require multi-disciplinary approaches involving unexplored scientific areas. He/ She will proactively communicate his/ her work in a timely, clear and effective manner.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Identify the major, specific end results that the position is responsible for achieving. (Not statements of day-to-day details, duties or responsibilities.)
1. Responsible for sophisticated design, marketable products, materials, and processes characterized by proprietary technology and high added value.
2. Consistently apply advanced engineering tools and methods as well as statistical data to design producible and reliable products. Holistically balance producibility, quality and customer technical and Parker Lord commercial requirements.
3. Lead project assignments of medium-to-high complexity, some having significant revenue potential.
4. Consistently compile, interpret, make appropriate recommendations, and report complex project results through technical reports, and project plans.
5. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date laboratory record. Protect proprietary information.
6. Begin to establish professional contacts outside of company and develop knowledge of industry. Start to integrate information from a variety of sources to create a broad awareness of the external market perspective and is able to communicate this well to subordinates, colleagues and managers.
7. Actively participate with customers on professional society activities and industry meetings. Act as senior technical professional to provide technical consultative services to internal and external customers.
8. Frequently interact and guide internal and external customers to optimum solutions for both Parker Lord and customers. Develop and set with customers' needs and requirements for complex projects.
9. Oversee extended external trials, manage technical interface during startup of major product thrusts.
10. Actively invent, develop and disseminate new technologies/solutions in support of customers and complex projects.
11. Develop and promote an established technical vision for major new initiatives and provide for the protection of proprietary technology. Pro-actively drive the mapping of Parker Lord technology development with the needs of Parker Lord 's major customers and/or markets.
12. Pro-actively bring new technology and processes into the technical community from universities, vendors and competitors.
13. Maintain an awareness of technical literature and contacts to define new technical approaches, projects and areas of interest.
14. Striving to be known as an industry expert and continue to build on a commendable track record of career accomplishments.
15. Pro-actively provide strategic input on technical direction, and seek out, identify and define activities/programs that support and further Parker Lord 's business opportunities.
16. Provide guidance or lead-like supervision to entry and intermediate level employees.
17. Follow and maintain standard practices, procedures and systems carrying out extensive laboratory experimentation to design and develop new laboratory techniques.
18. Propose improvements to existing processes leading to tangible benefits. Follow and maintain guidelines for laboratory equipment, supplies, training procedures and records according to Quality System standards.

Qualifications
MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
(The requirements that an individual must absolutely possess to perform the essential functions of the job.)
1. Typically reqires a minimum of 8-10 years related experience, preferably in multinational organization.
2. Master's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science or realted technical field discipline.
3. Experience in formulation development of adhesives and/ or coatings.
4. Knowledge of polymers, chemistry, thermosetting polymer reactions, adhesives and coatings application equipment.
5. Solid experienced in laboratory practices to exercise a good level of chemical laboratory safety awareness. Able to handle hazardous chemicals safely.
6. Possess adequate visual acuity to read chemical container labels.
7. Possess strong organizational/ work coordination skills and has proven records for working effectively with different cross-functional project team.
8. Work effectively and efficiently across various functional groups.
9. Possess good written and oral communication skills, project management skill and computer skill.
10. Fluent in Mandarin and English.
11. Able to travel (both global and domestic) as required.
NON-MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
(Not absolutely required, but will enhance the applicant’s/employee’s chances for success.)
1. PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science or related technical field is preferable.
2. Knowledge of formulation skill, design of experiments, dispersion of solids in liquids, rheology, lubricant science.
3. Knowledges of water base polyurethane or elastomer chemistry.
4. Knowledge of statistical methods and/ or experimental design.
5. Experience in lab quality system.
6. Possess good mechanical aptitude.
7. Demonstrated problem-solving skills in various chemical process concerns.
8. Good technical writing skills.
