About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and business-focused Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support its growing operations in Japan. This role will serve as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing expert HR guidance while driving people initiatives that support organizational growth, employee engagement, and business performance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR business partnering, excellent knowledge of Japanese employment legislation, and experience working within a fast-paced, multicultural, and matrixed organization. This position requires a proactive HR professional who can balance strategic planning with hands-on execution across the employee lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Business Partnership
- Partner closely with business leaders to develop and implement people strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Provide strategic HR guidance on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, and talent management.
- Support leadership teams in driving organizational effectiveness and business transformation initiatives.
- Act as a trusted advisor on all people-related matters affecting business performance.
Talent Management & Organizational Development
- Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development planning.
- Partner with managers to identify, develop, and retain high-performing talent.
- Support leadership development, career progression, and succession planning initiatives.
- Identify organizational capability gaps and recommend appropriate learning and development solutions.
Employee Relations & Compliance
- Manage complex employee relations matters including investigations, disciplinary actions, grievance handling, and conflict resolution.
- Ensure compliance with Japanese labor laws, employment regulations, and company policies.
- Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee performance, workplace issues, and HR best practices.
- Mitigate employment risks by ensuring consistent application of HR policies and legal requirements.
Employee Experience & Culture
- Drive employee engagement initiatives to strengthen organizational culture and improve retention.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Promote a positive employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle.

HR Operations & Analytics
- Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence on recruitment, compensation, benefits, learning, and talent initiatives.
- Analyze HR metrics and workforce data to provide actionable business insights and recommendations.
- Support annual HR processes including compensation reviews, promotions, talent reviews, and workforce planning.
- Lead or support HR projects, organizational changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related discipline.
- 5–10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including at least 2 years in an HR Business Partner role.
- Strong knowledge of Japanese labor laws, employment regulations, and HR compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience supporting business leaders and senior stakeholders.
