The Role:
Based in Tokyo, this is the dedicated commercial finance lead for DAZN Japan's advertising business — one of the market's fastest-growing revenue lines. The role owns the end-to-end advertising finance cycle, from forecasting and weekly trading insight through to campaign cost, margin, debtors and yield management, partnering daily with ad sales, ad operations, ad tech and data.
Beyond advertising, the remit extends to the commercial finance view of Japan's production and content — engagement performance across live and non-live and a clear position on content ROI — fed directly back into ad inventory management, forecasting and content strategy.
Advertising
- Own advertising revenue forecasting and the financial model across all inventory types — building the volume, rate and yield drivers with the data and sales teams
- Track booked and pipeline revenue against budget and forecast, providing the weekly advertising outlook to local and central leadership and partnering with sales to keep the rolling forecast current
- Own the month-end advertising close and receivables — ensuring revenue is recognised correctly, and working with AR and sales to resolve ageing balances and billing issues
- Produce the monthly advertising KPI pack, working with the data team and acting as the link between data and sales
- Own campaign cost tracking and direct-cost margin analysis by deal, including production recharges and centrally-allocated serving costs
- Drive the advertising yield and growth strategy across ad sales, ad operations and ad tech, and provide financial scrutiny on deal evaluation, pricing and new advertising opportunities
Production & Content
- Build and maintain a clear view of Japan production costs — key rights obligations, vendor structures and the cost of delivering live content
- Own engagement performance across live and non-live content, linking it to ad inventory management and revenue forecasting
- Develop a clear, evidence-based position on the ROI of content — both live and non-live — to inform commissioning and investment decisions and drive the business forward
Business Partnering & Decision Support
- Act as the dedicated finance partner and single point of contact for the advertising business — across local sales, ad operations, ad tech, data and production, and for the central finance team on Japan advertising budgeting, forecasting and reporting
- Own commercial decisions end to end — bringing independent financial judgement and a clear recommendation, not just reporting the numbers
Experience
- Solid experience in a finance role that combines both accounting and commercial finance responsibilities — comfortable with month-end and cash management as well as forecasting, modelling and working closely with the business
- Experience in revenue or advertising finance — partnering a sales team on forecasting, pricing and revenue recognition — is a strong advantage
- Track record of working directly with senior leadership — comfortable presenting financial insight and influencing decisions at MD or C-suite level
- Experience in a media, technology, digital advertising, or fast-growth consumer business is preferred but not essential
- Experience setting up a finance function — putting in reporting, processes and controls — is a big plus
- Experience managing a cost base, not just reporting on it
- Comfortable owning month-end revenue close, KPI reporting and debtor management end to end, with sound commercial judgement on cost and margin
Skills & Capabilities
- Strong on the accounting basics and commercially minded — able to keep day-to-day finance running while keeping sight of the bigger picture
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency; experience with BI tools such as Looker is an advantage
- A clear communicator who can explain the numbers in a way non-finance colleagues can act on
- Highly organised and self-sufficient — able to manage multiple priorities and deliver reliably under pressure
- Works well across teams — finance, sales, operations and leadership
