Position for Professor in the Laboratory of Vehicle Robotics,
Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University

We are inviting applications for the position of Professor in the Laboratory of Vehicle Robotics, Research Group of
Bioresource and Environmental Engineering, Division of Fundamental Agriscience Research, Research Faculty of
Agriculture, Hokkaido University.

4. Duties in education:

Lectures, seminars, experimental work, practical training, and exercise courses provided in Graduate School of
Agriculture and School of Agriculture, Hokkaido University (see Appendix 2).

5. Qualifications:
(1) Applicants should have or are expected to have a doctoral degree or Ph.D.

(2) The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of groundbreaking research achievements in the field of
agricultural information engineering and agricultural robotics related to smart agriculture. The candidate will
also be able to effectively supervise graduate and undergraduate students from an international perspective.
(see Appendix 3).

(4) Applicants should be proactive in contributing to the development of the Laboratory of Vehicle Robotics
through education and research (see Appendix 3).

(5) Applicants should be able to provide research guidance regarding the above subjects for undergraduate and
graduate students in Japanese and English.

(6) A strong track record in obtaining external funding.
(7) Applicants should arrive at this post on the scheduled date.

Appendix

2. The Laboratory of Vehicle Robotics constitutes the Research Group of Bioresource and Environmental

Engineering, together with five other laboratories, namely, Land and Water Management, Soil Conservation,
Ecological and Environmental Physics, Agricultural and Food Process Engineering, and Agricultural Bio-System
Engineering.

3. The successful applicant will partly or fully give the lectures listed below, for which the Laboratory of Vehicle

Robotics is responsible. The laboratory participates in “the Global Education Program for AgriScience Frontiers”
and also provides education only in English.
(1) Subjects in the Graduate School of Agriculture: Advanced Smart Agriculture, Study on Agricultural Science

I & II, Seminar on Agricultural Science I & II, and others
(2) Subjects in the School of Agriculture: Field informatics and automation, Automatic control, Seminar in

Bioresource and Environmental Engineering I-IV, Graduation Thesis, and others.
(3) Subjects in general education: Environment and People, and others.

4. The Vehicle Robotics Laboratory is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge in the domain of smart

agriculture through education and research initiatives. The laboratory's research endeavors center on addressing
critical issues pertaining to global food production. These efforts involve the development of intelligent and
robotic off-road vehicles, as well as the collection and analysis of spatial data on farmland, weather, and
crops. Currently, the laboratory has one associate professor, one assistant professor and specially appointed
assistant professor as faculty members.

5. The Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Headquarters of our university is implementing various initiatives in

addition to the project to subsidize the employment costs of technical assistants as shown in the attached document.
