This is a brand-new role for Legal & Compliance Specialist with a major foreign medical device corporation. You will be joining an established legal team led by a senior bengoshi and will cover a wide range of legal and regulatory affairs. You will be advising colleagues across different business functions and will be working with legal teammates in Japan and overseas. The main responsibilities of the role are as below:
- Provide advisory support to business and corporate functions such as sales, marketing, HR and senior management on legal matters
- Draft, review and negotiate corporate and commercial legal documents in Japanese and English
- Work closely with local and global legal functions to align business policies and manage risk
- Manage the company’s response to disputes, litigation and arbitration, working with external counsel where necessary
- Work in line with compliance to monitor potential violations, support investigations and run employee training on relevant issues
The main requirements for this role are as follows:
- Qualified as a Japanese attorney (bengoshi) with at least 3 years’ experience, either in a major law firm or the legal department of an international corporation
- Law degree from a Japanese university with post-graduate qualifications an advantage
- Strong communication skills in English and Japanese, with the ability to draft documentation in either language
- Resourceful with a flexible, proactive approach and the ability to explain legal concepts to colleagues without a legal background
